Joshua's Triumph Last Night...

 DSC03508
Dear Friends and Family,

Tonight marked an amazing triumph for Joshua and our family.  Two months ago, Joshua, Jocelyn, Jacob and my mom were at the Angel's game watching their very first baseball game.  At the last inning, my mom receives a call from the pediatrician saying that Joshua needs go to the emergency room immediately.  It was at Angel's Stadium that Joshua first found out that he has Leukemia.  And two months later, it is at Angel's Stadium that he carries a white illuminated balloon to signify that he is a survivor.  It was great walking with him when we passed where he was sitting before he entered this new chapter in his life.  He is a fighter!!  Thank you everyone for coming out to walk and share this wonderful night with us.

Update on Joshua:
Joshua started middle school a few weeks ago.  He said to me that he feels special that he is the only one on campus that is allowed to wear a bandana.  His new school has accepted him well.  Last night, he attended his first dance.  He is enjoying the full middle-school experience.  Joshua will continue to get regular check-ups and chemotherapy treatments periodically for the next year or so.

The first few months are the most difficult for kids and families dealing with Leukemia.  We have been very fortunate to have so many of you praying and encouraging us these past two months to get us through it.  My family, Joshua, and I want to give our thanks to everyone who have shown us so much support.  We appreciate all that you do!!

GREAT NEWS!!!

Great news about Joshua!!  We received the results from his bone marrow biopsy.  He is in the preliminary stages of remission!!  His initial cancer count was 80%, which means 80% of his cells were producing bad blood.  Today his cancer count is 0%!  Praise God!!  It is a miracle that his body responded so well to the chemotherapy and medication.  In the next few weeks, he will have one more round of chemotherapy.  Then, he will have routine hospital visits every 2 weeks to check for relapse and monitor his recovery.  The best news is that he will be able to start 7th grade AT Whitney High School as a normal student.  He will be able to experience having a locker, changing periods, join after school clubs, and the works!!

As a sister, I've seen my brother's courage.  He never shed a tear even through the scariest moments.  During my first days at the hospital with him, he shared with me a bible verse.  "Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go" (Joshua 1:9).  He learned this verse this summer at VBS (Vacation Bible School).  He said that many of his friends at VBS needed this verse, because they were going through tough times.  Ironically, this verse came up again and again and gave both of us strength and courage.  As a family, we all agree that Joshua is the toughest one out of all of us.

I believe that God brought Leukemia into my life to teach me many things.  One of which is how to love other people.  I learned how to comfort and pray for others as I experienced it from all of you.  Thank you for all the e-mails, phone calls, voicemails, and cards!  You all mean so much to me!

Update on Joshua...

Thanks to everyone who have either joined the Light the Night walk or supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  In the beginning, I wanted to participate in this walk just to show Joshua my support and keep his spirits high, however I have been amazed by the support from so many of you who joined the walk and/or contributed.  I have been so encouraged by all of you.

Joshua is doing very well.  This past Monday, he had biopsy of his bone marrow.  We have not received the results yet, however we are hopeful that things are going well.  Tonight, Joshua moved back to my parent's house.  I will miss seeing him day in and day out.  He has been living with me for the past 2-1/2 weeks while my parents were remodeling to his room to accomodate his needs.  It has given us good brother-sister time.  I really enjoyed playing Gamecube and Scrabble with him and watching all the fun youtube videos he finds.

Thanks for all your encouragement and prayers!

Light the Night Leukemia Walk

We have started a Team called "In honor of Joshua Chung" for the Light the Night Walk.  If you would like to sign up and be a part of the walk, please sign up with this team name.  Joshua hopes that he will be able to participate at the walk at Anaheim Stadium with all of us.

Joshua and I have been very encouraged by so many responses!  I have been asked if the money will go directly to Joshua or the foundation.  We will be walking in honor of him for the foundation.  All donations will go towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and their activities.  They do great things for people and kids with Leukemia including research, putting programs on at the hospitals and contributing to Make a Wish Foundation.

We have plans to start a trust fund for Joshua in the future.  If you would like to contribute towards him personally, let me know and we will contact you directly.  Thanks for all your support and prayers!

Walk for Joshua

Dear Family and Friends,

On July 19, 2006, my brother Joshua was diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia.  He was hospitalized for 3 weeks and now at home recovering.  He will have 1-1 1/2 years of treatments including chemotherapy and medication.  During this challenging month, my family, Joshua, and I have really felt the power of prayer and grateful for the support from many of you.  Recently, Joshua was accepted to Whitney High School for 7th grade.  We are all very proud of him!  However, due to his health, he will enter the 7th grade with a home school teacher provided by Whitney High School.  When he is strong enough, he hopes to have the full middle-school experience at Whitney High School.

On September 16, 2006, I am walking in honor of Joshua at Anaheim Stadium at Light the Night Walk hosted by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  I welcome you to come join me and walk in honor of him or help make a contribution.  Please use the link in this email to donate online quickly & securely.  You will receive email confirmation of your donation and I will be notified as soon as you make your donation. I thank you in advance for your support, and really appreciate your generosity!
